A PATTERN LANGUAGE
For conscious kink
& designer relationships.
Below you will find all patterns grouped from large movements to small ones — from the foundational questions that sit beneath everything, to the fine detail of how a dynamic lives in daily life.
This list is not complete, but it offers a structure for finding the patterns that matter most in your own pattern language.
Layer One
Foundation
The bedrock. Six questions that sit underneath everything else — and that, when answered honestly, change everything that follows.
Layer Two
Structure
The grammar of the relationship — the agreements, frameworks, and explicit shapes through which a conscious dynamic becomes legible to the people inside it.
Layer Three
Protocol
How the agreement lives in the body. The daily forms, gestures, and rituals through which the relationship becomes real in ordinary time.
Layer Four
Language & Attitude
The quality of communication running underneath everything. Language, directness, honesty, and the small daily acts where trust is built — or eroded.
Layer Five
Body & Presence
The dimension below language. Where two bodies meet in real time, where presence cannot be performed, and where the deepest territories open.
Layer Six
Practice
Where everything is tested. The scene, the body, the practices that mediate the dynamic — and the repair work when something goes wrong.
Layer Seven
Boundaries
The outer membrane. Where the dynamic meets the world it exists within — family, friends, community, and the consequences that ripple beyond two people.
Layer Eight
Growth & Time
The longest scale. How a dynamic changes across years, how it renews itself, how it recognises its phases — and how it ends well.
The Philosophical Pillars
The Six Roads
These are not patterns in the usual sense. They are the philosophical traditions that underlie the entire language — six paths that approach the same territory from different directions. They were here before the patterns, and they remain after.
A Living Contribution
The Pattern Well
A pattern language grows from the people who live inside it. The Pattern Well is where you can bring your own insight — and have it worked out, given structure, placed in the language.
A pattern language is never finished. These patterns are not comprehensive. They are one attempt to describe what a conscious approach to power exchange requires. You will read them and disagree with some. You will notice what is missing. Good. That noticing is the beginning of your own contribution.
